The jilted lover had been hoping to attend all the Christmas functions with Gerard in tow, and the notion that he was going to be in Dubai had not gone down well despite him breaking the news in the gentlest way possible.
All in all Gerard considered himself fortunate to have boarded the plane with only a broken arm as a parting gift. It helped that his travelling partner - or whatever they were - didn't make a big fuss about the bandaged forearm, even if he felt compelled to make his displeasure known in his frowns and sighs.
The desert paradise where they slept through the scorching heat of the day in a chilled penthouse suite and went out during the balmy nights was a nice escape from what was guaranteed to have been a dreary December attending a string of formal and semi-formal Thanksgiving through to Christmas and New Year events. Clearly Gerard didn't make a habit out of lazing around in bed all that often - he seemed a little restless lying on Alessandro's chest.
